Three Little Words

Friday, October 12, 2018

I was listening to Rachel and Dave Hollis's Instagram live yesterday, and they had Brendon Burchard on as a guest. You may have heard of Brendon, he is the author of High Performance Habits. Rachel is the author of Girl, Wash Your Face. In my head, Rach and I are BFFs (Rachel, if you ever read this- hi and THANK YOU). I start my days Monday-Friday with Rachel's Instagram live.

Anyway, they were talking about habits and one of them said something really powerful. They said if you could choose three words to be remembered by, to have on your tombstone, what would they be?

And, this is the kicker, what are you doing today and everyday to make those words who you really are? Meaning, it's great to say you want to be smart, funny, or whatever. But what action are you taking to be that person everyday and show up? What plans do you have in place to be the person you really are? Not when you're gone, but TODAY.

What are my three words? What are YOUR three words? I gave this a lot of thought. My three words are leader, strong and positive. Leader because I tell the truth, even to my own detriment. I stand up for what I believe in, no matter what and no matter what the backlash. Strong, because I have fought like heck to survive this wild world and I won't backdown. I know it is up to me and only me to live the life I want to live. And also, because I am a pretty fierce mama bear that will take anyone down should they mess with my cub. And positive- kind of self explanatory. This is the word I was least sure about. Life isn't always about rainbows and butterflies. We all have our peaks and valleys, I am not happy all the time. I just hope that I find the silver lining in every situation. I hope that I encourage others to do the same and lift them up when they are feeling down. I was considering swapping positive out for grateful, because I truly believe a positive, growth-mindset is based on gratitude. I have to think about it some more...

The real question is what am I doing everyday to be a leader- to be strong- to be positive/grateful. Leadership finds me here. Writing to you. I am really putting myself out there in hopes that I can connect with people in a real way about real things. Social media is filled with fakeness and filters. I believe people are struggling to find inner peace and self love. So I am here to tell you, you can do it. If you are willing to look for them, there are resources to help you grow. Strength, is an ongoing battle. Basically, I just keep getting up. If and when I get knocked down, I get back up again. No matter what. There's a song to be played right now :) I commit to showing up for myself, every single day. And positive. An optimistic disposition most of the time. Not all of the time, but often.

What are your three words? One thing to note, the words can change. My words today are definitely not what they were a year or two ago. We are evolving, and growing. I don't think these words are meant to stay the same the rest of our lives. Do you? And more importantly, what are you doing today to make those words a reality? I would love to hear from you.

  1. I can't even begin to tell you how this is my daily struggle. I understand I am a mother, wife, and teacher however I feel that I have a much greater call.... problem being is that I have NO IDEA what that call is. I am tired of living my day to day feeling like I am barely scratching the surface of who I am meant to be. I am trying, unsuccessfully, to regain my identity while keeping everyone in my house happy and alive!!! WHAT A TASK.

    1. Keeping everyone happy and alive! That is a tall order- keeping everyone happy INCLUDING yourself. Can feel dang near impossible, right? If I can suggest starting with your three words. Create small goals. I feel the same way, I am meant to do more. Being a mom is special and great. But I don't feel like it is meant to be my ONLY role. Once you decide you are worth it and you are capable, I know everything will fall into place for you. Just make sure you show up every single day :) I am here for you cheering you on. You can do it!
